Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a form of trauma treatment that can help you let go of painful emotional experiences. It is a standardized treatment approach that incorporates body awareness, grounding techniques, bilateral stimulation (BLS), and mindfulness to reduce the level of emotional “charge” around painful or traumatic events.

What does EMDR help with?

EMDR can be helpful for any problem that involves intense emotional responses, whether you consider something “traumatic” or not. The treatment works without having to talk about painful events in detail, which is an added benefit for those who do not want to discuss or relive past experiences.

EMDR can be helpful with the following:

  • An important loss (death, illness, accident, etc.)

  • A significant life change

  • Painful relationship dynamics (with partner, children, parents, etc.)

  • Past childhood trauma/stress

  • Other highly emotional experiences
