Phobias

Phobias involve overwhelming or extreme feelings of fear related to an object, situation, or activity.

Exposure Therapy (a form of CBT) works to reduce phobia-related fear and anxiety.

Phobias

How do you treat phobias and excessive fear?

Exposure Therapy has been shown to be extremely effective in providing sustained relief from phobia-related fear. Exposure Therapy helps you gradually face your fear in a controlled and safe environment.

Combined with anxiety relief techniques, this gradual exposure helps retrain your brain to permanently reduce your fear response. Many clients experience a drastic reduction in anxiety and phobia-related fear in just a handful of sessions.

What kind of phobias do you treat?

Here are some of the more common phobias we treat:

  • Fear of Flying (Aerophobia)

  • Fear of Dogs (Cynophobia)

  • Social Phobia (Social Anxiety Disorder)

  • Fear of Heights (Acrophobia)

  • Fear of Needles/Injections (Trypanophobia)

  • Agoraphobia*

*Agoraphobia is a type of phobia involving fear of situations where escape might be difficult or embarrassing. Agoraphobia can lead to avoidance of crowds, public places, or open spaces and may make leaving your home difficult or extremely uncomfortable. Agoraphobia can be treated virtually, without needing to travel to our therapy offices.

Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT) can be part of your phobia treatment.

Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT) utilizes virtual reality headsets to create immersive digital environments to aid in exposure work. Virtual reality headsets can be used in our office or shipped to your home. Virtual reality treatment works particularly well with specific phobias, such as heights, needles/injections, spiders, and airplanes/flying.

You can stop living in fear.
