Therapy for Children (Ages 6+)
Evidence-based, child-focused treatment to support emotional growth, resilience, and connection, tailored for children ages 6+.

How We Do Child Therapy
This service provides one-on-one treatment for children ages 6+, designed to help them better understand and manage their emotions, behaviors, and relationships.
Our sessions aren’t just about “talking it out” or unstructured play. Every treatment plan is goal-oriented, trauma-informed, and backed by clinical research. We also incorporate parent coaching or family sessions when it supports the child’s progress.
Whether your child is struggling with transitions, anxiety, or simply needs support navigating a big feeling, they don’t have to do it alone.

What Challenges Can We Help With?
Our child-focused services support a wide range of challenges, including:
- Generalized anxiety
- Separation anxiety
- Phobias and fears
- Obsessive-compulsive behaviors (OCD)
- School refusal and difficult transitions
- Emotion regulation challenges
- Family stress and trauma
- Neurodiversity support (e.g. ADHD, autism spectrum)

Every child’s story is different. Whether the concern feels big or small, our goal is to help your child feel supported, understood, and more confident in their daily life.
What Makes Our Approach Different
At Vivid Psychology Group, we specialize in research-based, results-driven treatment, not just traditional talk therapy. Learn more about our overall approach to anxiety treatment, including how we tailor evidence-based interventions for children. Here’s what sets our work apart:

Evidence-Based Care
We use the gold-standard approaches for child and family treatment:

Structure With Heart
While sessions are warm and child-led, they’re never aimless. We combine creative methods with clear therapeutic goals to foster real progress.

Whole-Family Focus
When helpful, we integrate parent-focused work (like SPACE or coaching) to support healthier dynamics at home, not just symptom reduction.

Trauma-Informed & Neurodiversity-Affirming
We understand the complex ways children respond to stress, anxiety, or difference, and we honor their unique strengths.
We include parents in the process (when helpful) and offer skills they can use to support their child’s progress at home.
Our goal is always to empower families, not just reduce symptoms.

How Are Parents Involved in Treatment?
Some children benefit most from individual sessions. Others may need their caregivers involved more actively. We work collaboratively to find the best balance.
Depending on your child’s needs, we may recommend:
- Occasional check-ins with parents
- Parent-led treatment models like SPACE
- Joint sessions using CBT
- Tools and language you can use at home
You’re not just “dropping off” your child for treatment. You’re joining them in their growth.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs treatment?
If your child is experiencing ongoing anxiety, difficulty managing emotions, behavioral outbursts, or struggling at school or in relationships, treatment may help. It’s not just for crises, early support can build long-term resilience.
What happens in a typical child treatment session?
Sessions vary depending on the child’s age, needs, and goals. They might involve structured play, art activities, skill-building exercises, or gentle conversations to help your child express themselves and build coping strategies.
Will I be involved in every session?
Not necessarily. In some cases, the child works independently with the clinician. In others, especially when using models like SPACE, CBT, parents are actively involved. We’ll work with you to determine the most supportive setup.
How long does treatment usually last?
There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline. Some children benefit from brief, targeted treatment over a few months. Others may need longer-term support. We review progress regularly and adjust the plan based on your child’s needs.
My child is nervous about starting treatment. What should I do?
It’s normal for children to feel unsure at first. You can explain that therapy is a safe space to get support, have fun, and learn new skills. Our clinicians are trained to build trust and make the process feel safe and approachable.
Do you diagnose children or provide psychological assessments?
This service is focused on treatment. However, if diagnostic clarity is needed, we offer psychological assessments as a separate service and can guide you through that process.
Is this covered by insurance or Medicaid?
We accept Colorado Access Medicaid plans and offer sliding-scale options for private pay. For other insurance plans, we can provide documentation for out-of-network reimbursement.
